On the 12th Emma had surgery. She had tubes put in both of her ears. Apparently, she has had fluid behind her eardrums since birth. She doesn't talk and the first test that is done is a hearing test. She failed it!The procedure was really quick. The longest part was in the recovery room waiting for the medicine to wear off. She sat on my lap for a minute. The nurse brought her a cup of apple juice (that she offered to put in a bottle! no just a cup thanks...she did end up bringing a straw too) and Emma decided it was time to run around. The patient a couple of cubicles away had a blood pressure alarm that kept beeping, Emma would run over to her machine (that was off, but they used before the surgery) and kept pointing at it. She then found the box of Kleenex. She would get one out and wipe her nose. She looked around a little bit, before Lee showed her the garbage. She threw her tissue away and would run to get another one out of the box. I ended up hiding the box. Then she decided to crawl under the chairs. The nurse that sent us home said that the kids usually take a really long nap and then will be fine later in the day. She mentioned that she didn't think Emma would take a nap and she was pretty much right! In fact she hasn't napped well since. Maybe a half an hour and then she will decide that she can hear what we are doing and she wants to join us. She does better if I only let her have one nap. It was about time to drop a nap anyway.
She has been doing very well, and even tries to say some words. She saw a balloon and said "Ba". I said "balloon", and her eyes got really big and she said "ballall". She sticks out and wiggles her tongue after she tries to say it. It is cute. She has also said "coat", and "shoe", and "more". She even said "grandpa" after she pushed the button on her toy phone that said, "let's call grandpa".
