In celebration of the fourth of July, we shot off model rockets at Lundstrom Park on the third. (But, I forgot my camera.) Dave and Kylee Peterson came with us and Dave and Tyler were our runners. We "earned" new rockets this year. (We had a family unplug week...no computer, tv, movies, etc. for one week.) Our new rockets were bigger (12 inches and 18 inches) than the ones we have had in the past. We shot them eight times and had 100% recovery. We usually loose at least one.
Later that night, we watched the fireworks at MASA field. We made cookies and took some yummy treats. We went over early enough we got to play some card games while we waited. It was fun to watch them with friends. Andrew was a little bit nervous, I forgot to remind him what fireworks were and last year was probably too long ago to remember what to expect. Emma was sitting on my lap, and she loved them! She spent the half-hour clapping. Tyler's favorite was the "star" ones. After the show we made snow cones.
On the fourth, we went to the Gibby Annual Family Barbecue in Layton. We went down early enough to help set everything up. It was a hot day, but by the time the party started we were in the shade and it had cooled down enough to be enjoyable.
This is one of the few times a year that the "whole" family gets together. We get to see cousins that we haven't seen for a long time. It is fun that even though the kids don't really know each other, they have fun playing together anyway.
We had snap-its or poppers or whatever those things are called and sparklers to finish off the night. Tyler liked the sparklers more than Andrew and Emma. Andrew got burned last year and didn't want to try to hold it. Emma didn't dare hold one, she wanted to, but when you would try to give it to her she wouldn't take it and she would shake her head no. She kept trying to blow them out when other people were holding them.
We spent the night in Layton that night and helped clean up the next day before we went to the Salt Lake Bees baseball game.
